O personagem central é tão marcante e o conto tem uma força tal que <i>Bartleby</i> tem fascinado leitores e críticos desde sua primeira publicação.<br><br>Foi, contemporaneamente, teorizado por filósofos tão ilustres quanto Gilles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida, e Giorgio Agamben (v. <i>Bartleby, ou da contingência</i>, Autêntica, 2015).
