Night Train

Newly reissued for the modern reader, a satirical literary noir in which the female detective Mike Hoolihan must solve the apparent suicide of her friend's daughter-now with an introduction by Jennifer Egan. For Detective Mike Hoolihan, life is a never-ending cycle of the same dull, drab things. Her work on the police force is unsatisfying, her marriage near unbearable, and the call of a good bottle of whisky a constant, dangerous siren song. When Mike's close friend, Colonel Tom, comes to her asking for her help regarding the apparent suicide of his daughter, Mike's world begins to change. Jennifer Rockwell had it all-money, brains, and beauty-and the whole community is dumbfounded as to why someone like her would take her own life. Is something darker actually at play? Night Train by Martin Amis is a twisty, stormy journey through grief, paranoia, and pride.
