The Story of NME

Published in collaboration with the NME, this is a history and celebration of the world’s most iconic music paper. We chart the key moments from the paper's vibrant and often controversial history, from its birth in March 1952 as a somewhat niche publication for musicians and those in the industry, through dramatic shifts in editorial ethos, putting 'hip young gunslingers' at the helm, to the end of the print edition in March 2018. Each chapter of the book is dedicated to a particular decade, highlighting the major musical milestones and figures from each year, and is illustrated with images from the NME's own archive, including profiles, Q&As, interviews, single and album reviews, chart listings and vintage adverts from the era. We also spotlight the legendary editors, writers, designers and photographers from the paper’s history, including Julie Burchill, Tony Parsons, Danny Baker, Pennie Smith, Kevin Cummins and Anton Corbijn.
