Evil, Actually

Every villain arc begins with good intentions . . . The darkly funny, highly original and twisty new mystery from Veronika Dapunt. After a bad break-up, disillusioned fashion designer Chloe thought her biggest problems were a new boss who spends more on spiritual cleansing than salaries, and the most reliable presence in her life being a rescue goldfish. But then a mugging on her commute ends in disaster and Chloe discovers she is the Pandora. Yes, of the Greek myth. Reincarnated in modern-day London. To make matters worse, she makes the dubious acquaintance of the legendary Great Evils, and they are . . . not quite what she expected. Now forced into a wary alliance, including with the Ministry of Defence, Chloe realises that something far more dangerous is at play. And for reasons Chloe doesn't fully understand (and would very much like to ignore), she might be the only one standing between humanity and the end of the world.
