Supporting Cast

Will Carol, recovering from a psychological breakdown, be able to find the child who was taken from her? After years in prison, how will the newly emancipated Byron find his way home? Supporting Cast is the follow-up to Kit de Waal's highly acclaimed novels My Name is Leon and The Trick to Time. We revisit the characters in stories of loss, love and regret, following the spiky Sylvia as she files for divorce from her alcoholic husband; a married woman who confesses her secret love for another man; and a blind man raise a toast at his wedding. This is a deft, compassionate, humane, expansive collection that follows several generations of interconnected lives. Written with the power and precision of some of the greatest short story writers, Supporting Cast is a fearless and hopeful portrait of contemporary Britain.
